Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter 56 g, melted
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese about 10 g
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder garlic granules
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese about 115 g
  • 6 slices provolone cheese about 170 g
  • 6 slices Texas toast or other thick-cut bread
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Optional: If you prefer a crispier texture, lightly toast the bread first. For a softer bite, skip this step.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, and oregano until well combined.
  • Lay the bread slices in a single layer on an air fryer rack or a baking sheet. Spread the butter mixture evenly over each slice.
  • Top each slice with mozzarella cheese, then place one slice of provolone on each piece of bread.
  • Air fry at 350°F (175°C / 155°C fan) for about 5 minutes, or bake in a convection oven at 375°F (190°C / 170°C fan / Gas Mark 5) for 6 to 7 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted.
  • If desired, sprinkle with dried parsley before serving.

Notes

Cook in batches if your air fryer only fits 2 or 3 slices at a time. Keep finished toast warm in a low oven.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2 to 3 minutes.
To freeze, assemble the uncooked slices on a tray, freeze until firm, then bag them for up to 2 months. Cook from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes.
Swap provolone for Swiss, Emmental, or mild white Cheddar if needed.
